Thank you for helping as a farmers' market food rescue assistant! There is a core group of volunteers who regularly complete this rescue. Once you've signed up, our staff will connect you with one of the core volunteers, who will be able to show you how the market rescue works.

Kailua Town Farmer's Market is located at 640 Ulukahiki St. Kailua, HI 96734.

The rescue begins at 11:30am and food is delivered to Windward Community College TriO Student Support Services. 

You will need a vehicle with space to carry and deliver the food for this rescue. 

Once you have signed up, Tsuyuno will put you in contact with our core volunteers who lead this rescue so they can provide further guidance.

We are looking for one volunteer to assist to with pickups at the Airport + Moanalua McDonald's on Tuesdays!

6 am- 4 pm - McDonald's Airport – 3299 North Nimitz Hwy. Honolulu, HI 96819 (#808-833-3784)

6 am - 4 pm - McDonald's Moanalua – 928 Valkenburgh St. Honolulu, HI 96818 (#808-423-9695)

Call each McDonald's before going in to confirm if they need a pickup.  They might not answer.

Go up to the front counter expediter or cashier and let them know you're with Aloha Harvest and there to pickup their donations.

We need 1 volunteer on Saturdays at between 2:00-3:00pm to pick up excess food from Babe's Bakery in Kaimuki.

Pickup Location: Babe's Bakery located at 3036 Waialae Ave. Suite B4 (in the back of the parking lot)

What type of car is needed: Any size car will work. The volume will just be between 5-30lbs. of food.

What to bring: The food will be individually wrapped.

Tell the security desk where you’re going, and they will give you an elevator key that allows you to go to the 6th and 30th floors only. 

For the 6th floor, get out of the elevator and take a right and another right out.

For the 30th floor, just go straight out of the elevator and you’re there.

We are looking for one volunteer to assist with pickups at the Town McDonald's on Tuesdays!

6 am- 4 pm - McDonald's Keeaumoku – 910 Ke'eaumoku Street Honolulu, HI 96814 (#808-973-2361). Go to the back door on the side of the building facing the parking lot and ring the bell to the left of the door. Someone will come to the door. You may need to give them a minute to get there, ring twice if needed. Tell them you are a volunteer picking up the donations for Aloha Harvest. 

6 am - 4 pm - McDonald's Beretania – 1055 South Beretania Street Honolulu, HI 96814 (#808-798-5075). Be sure to call this location before heading over to ensure they have a donation. Go up to the front counter expediter or cashier and let them know you're with Aloha Harvest and there to pickup their donations.

We have had an increasing number of wedding planners, as well as other groups reach out to us wanting to donate their catered food to Aloha Harvest. If you are interested in assisting with on-call special event food rescue, please respond to this opportunity. Once we are contacted about a special event donation, Madelaine, the Volunteer Coordinator, will reach out to see, which volunteer(s) is able to fulfill the need. Donated food will be dropped off to a partner non-profit. 

Example of a previous special event pick up: wedding was at Moli'i Gardens and the food was dropped off at RYSE in Kailua.

We are looking for volunteers to help spread the word about our new Community Harvest program! Community Harvest is a program where gardeners, landowners, renters, and farmers can request supervised volunteers with harvest supplies to come to their property and harvest any fruit trees or produce they may have growing. Once the harvest is complete, volunteers drop the produce off to one of Aloha Harvest’s recipient agencies for free distribution to the hungry.

The task

We'd like volunteers to promote the Community Harvest program through their networks and communities. Volunteers will receive community harvest flyers and a script for how to tell your friends & neighbors about the program.

Time Commitment

We welcome any level of time commitment & engagement whether it's passing out flyers and information to your coworkers, neighbors you already know, or going door to door in your neighborhood. Any level of community outreach would be a big help to the program.

After you respond to this opportunity, The Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to with additional information and instructions.

Note:

Please practice social distancing as much as possible, and face mask is optional + your Aloha Harvest T-shirt and lanyard.

Anyone who doesn't already have an Aloha Harvest T-shirt/lanyard will get one at or prior to the event.
